I came into software the long way around — through the arts and human-computer interaction, which is really just a formal way of saying I've always cared more about the person using a thing than the thing itself. What keeps me building is the a-ha moment: that quiet instant when a product finally clicks for someone and gets out of their way.
I grew up in Southern California watching my parents run their own real estate office, so I have real respect for people who build something with their own hands. It's still home, and small-business owners are the people I most love building for. Good software should lighten the load, not add to it. And here, there's still a real person — one who listens, remembers your name, and actually picks up.
